Exploring the Wonders of Setiu Wetlands, Terengganu

Wetlands provide various ecosystem functions and services that are essential in fulfilling human needs, supporting livelihood and as a basis for sustainable development, besides safeguarding biodiversity. Therefore, maintaining healthy and functioning wetland ecosystems as well as addressing the threats and issues affecting the wetlands are critical to ensure the benefits they provide to both humans and nature can be sustained.

Programmes at Setiu Wetlands:

Introduction to WWF- Malaysia’s Fresh Water Conservation Efforts in Setiu Wetlands.

The programme will commence with an introduction session to enlighten participants with an overview of WWF-Malaysia's conservation efforts in Setiu Wetlands. To complement this session, participants can gain additional insights by viewing the exhibits featuring painted terrapin and wetlands conservation in the information gallery in the Kontena. Participants also gets a chance to be involved in a plogging activity on the beach nearby the Kontena as part of a sustainable practice to foster a cleaner environment that ultimately contributes to the well-being and vitality of the biodiversity in the wetlands especially the terrapins as well as the surrounding community

GelamCure Pilot Project

During the visit, participants can get detailed explanations about the GelamCure project including demonstrations of the process for EO extraction, and gain an understanding of the conservation and economic values of the gelam forest in Setiu Wetlands.

Sg. Setiu River Cruise

The journey by boat on Sg. Setiu offers enchanting sights through the picturesque landscapes, revealing the inter-connectedness of Setiu Wetlands' diverse ecosystems. Participants will also get the opportunity to observe the rich biodiversity of the Setiu Wetlands, particularly the unique and rare flora species such as the Berus Mata Buaya (Bruguiera hainesii) and Kepala Beruk (Hydnophytum formicarum) whereby their occurrence here are confined on the mangrove-covered islands of Pulau Layat and Pulau Telaga Tujuh respectively.

Urban Composting Workshop, Penang

It is estimated that 1800 tonnes of rubbish are disposed of every day at the landfill on Penang Island alone, with 720 tonnes being organic waste. By converting the organic waste into compost, we are able to reduce the emission of methane gas, which is a potent greenhouse gas.

Discover the innovative Economical Food Waste Composter (EFWC) that can convert 50kg of food waste into compost within 6 days. Requiring a small amount of energy and the presence of microbes to function, this affordable and effective machine is currently being implemented around the Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve and in various locations across Penang Island.

Join us today to learn the process of composting your food waste and experience the sustainable innovation in combating food waste.

Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur (FTS) is an environmental organisation that spreads the environmental stewardship message through giving away trees for free to green our Earth. Since 2013, FTS have given away over 40,000 plants to homeowners, schools, marginalized groups, community gardens and wildlife habitats to proliferate planting, to encourage biodiversity and to promote a love of nature. FTS runs a “Nature Education Programme” (sponsored by CIMB Islamic Bank) in partnership with Taman Tugu,

The Taman Tugu Project is a not-for-profit initiative led by Khazanah Nasional Berhad, in collaboration with various public sector agencies and civil society organisations. The project involves the rehabilitation and conservation of Taman Tugu Park, a 66-acre urban green-lung forest park in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

Discover another source of clean energy - Solar Power with SchneiTec

In line with Cambodia’s commitment in reaching Carbon Neutral Economy in 2050, renewable and clean energy sectors will be a catalyst for Cambodia to realize this commitment through enhancing energy efficiency and decarbonizing power sectors. Most importantly, for energy-intensive industries, it is crucial to understand and be ready for the near future energy transition by using a clean source of energy.

A half-day workshop will touch on the current status of renewable energy sectors in Cambodia where participants will also get to deep dive into the benefits of solar energy and how it generates the electricity power through solar farm tour, hosted by our partner – SchneiTec.

Founded in 2015, SchneiTec is an integrated electric power technology company principally engages in the provision of comprehensive power system Engineering and Technical Consulting for the construction of electric power assets. With a mission to provide the safer, green, convenient and efficient for Cambodia energy, by today, SchneiTec has built more than 240MW of solar farms, 23MW of thermal power plant, approximately more than 500km of 115kV-500kV transmission line and five substations that some were already in commercial operations and some are under construction.
