Dato’ Abdul Rahman started his career in 1992 at Arthur Andersen, London, and later served as Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman of Trenergy (M) Berhad/ Turnaround Managers Inc (M) Sdn Bhd. Subsequently, he joined Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad and later was the Executive Director of SSR Associates Sdn Bhd.

In 2001, he was appointed the Group Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad and later served the same position for Media Prima Berhad until 2009. From 2009 to 2016, Dato’ Abdul Rahman was the Chief Executive Officer of Ekuiti Nasional Berhad, a government-linked private equity firm.

From 2016 till 2019, he was President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Malaysia’s leading asset management company. He was also the Non-Executive Non-Independent Chairman of Sime Darby Berhad and Velesto Energy Berhad up until his retirement on 9 June 2020.
