Independent Non-Executive Director,

Sime Darby Plantation Berhad 

Dato’ Henry Sackville Barlow, 76, a British national, was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Sime Darby Plantation Berhad (SDP) on 5 April 2019. He was educated at Eton College and obtained his Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Dato’ Barlow is the Chairman of New Britain Palm Oil Limited, a subsidiary of SDP. He has over 50 years of experience in the Plantation Industry and was formerly the Finance Director of Barlow Boustead Estates Agency Sdn Berhad and Joint Managing Director of Highlands & Lowlands Berhad. He is also a former Council Member of the Incorporated Society of Planters.

Dato’ Barlow served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Sime Darby Berhad (SDB) since 29 September 2007 and became the Senior Independent Non-Executive Director of SDB on 16 November 2010. During his tenure on the SDB Board, he was also on the Board of SDB’s subsidiary companies, namely Sime Darby Plantation Sdn Bhd, PT Minamas Gemilang and PT Anugerah Sumbermakmur. He retired from the Board of SDB on 23 November 2015.

Dato’ Barlow was a Director of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad from 1994 to 2014. He is currently Joint Chair of the Grievance Committee of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). He served as the Joint chairman of the RSPO Biodiversity Technical Committee from 2009 to 2012. Dato’ Barlow is also the Honorary Treasurer of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society since 1994. He served as the Honorary Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Malaysian Nature Society from 1971 to 1998 and retired as the Chairman in 2000.
