Experiential Learning Sessions

In partnership with civil society organisations and social enterprises across the region, we were able to organise and support in-person experiential learning events across several cities in ASEAN at The Cooler Earth Sustainability Summit 2020. These in-person events have been curated by our partners and they range from environmental to community-based events.

The Taman Tugu Project is a not-for-profit corporate social responsibility ("CSR") initiative led by Khazanah Nasional Berhad ("Khazanah") in collaboration with various public sector agencies and civil society organisations. The Project consists of the following 2 key components:

i. Taman Tugu (Park): The rehabilitation, conservation and activation of a 66-acre site in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and turning it into an urban green-lung forest park for comunity; and

ii. National Public Trust - The incorporation of a public trust to own, manage and protect Taman Tugu as well as other potential assets of heritage values - including our natural heritage.

Please help us maintain Taman Tugu and other future projects by AWAN by making a contribution.

Biodiversity Walk

Like many scientific terms, biodiversity sounds abstract and dry. To bring it home and give it vitality, one has to start with a simple fact: Each of us is as biodiverse as the entire planet. Walk through the forests of Taman Tugu and learn about the various animals and plants that live there and how they interact and depend on each other. In these 2 hours, learn what biodiversity is and why we need it, for the planet and for our survival. Earth is a symbiotic collection of diverse species cohabitating to give our planet life, so are we, and as with Earth.

Sea Monkey

The Sea Monkey is a social enterprise that aims to create ocean plastic solution and education. We create small mobile plastic recycing machines and market sustainable products that are upcycled from differet types of plastic waste. We also create educational material and workshops to create awareness on the plastic issue. The project contributes to the following 3 key social purposes :

1) All our sustainable products are handcrafted by underpriviledged small local communities in which 20% of our profit goes back to these communities. This in turn help them improve their quality of life. The main community that we are currently working with is Orang Asli Mothers in Kampung Tekir in Seremban through the collaboration with MOAMI (Make Orang Asli others Independent)

2) 6% of profits goes to collecting plastic waste from the source before it ends up in landfills or beaches. We provide higher reward compared to market price for clean plastics given to our project to better encourage the public to recycle plastic.

3) Educational camps and workshops to local public schools to educate children about sustainable lifestyle and the plastic problem.
