The YWCA of Kuala Lumpur was established in 1913, a non-profit organisation that works for the development of women and girls irrespective of race, religion, culture, language and socio-economic circumstances. In 1998, YWCA KL set up the on-site Vocational Training Opportunity Centre (VTOC) to provide much needed vocational skills training for young women and girls from economically disadvantaged families.
YWCA KL’s social enterprise endeavour started in December 2017 with the upcycled bag maker project together with the VTOC’s Sewing and Tailoring students to demonstrate possibilities of creativity, reimagine the environment, push for conscious consumerism agenda, other than empowering the underprivileged communities.
