Boyd is a Chartered Town Planner with over 35 years’ experience in urban planning and development, environmental planning and management, and climate actions within Malaysia and abroad. He graduated in Town Planning Studies from the South Bank University (London); and has worked in the UK (London Borough of Newham and Sevenoaks District Council, Kent) for over 20 years. He is a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, UK, since 1989.
He returned to his native Sabah in 2001 to work on projects by funded by Denmark. Boyd started working at IRDA in 2008, and today leads the Resilient Environment portfolio at IRDA. He is involved in the preparation and implementation of the Low Carbon Society Blueprint for Iskandar Malaysia (a Climate Action document), a joint research project with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kyoto & Okayama universities and the National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan. Boyd advises top government officials – including the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Chief Minister of the State Government of Johor – on climate action, sustainable urban development, sustainable energy, and the natural environment
