Dr. Vijay Jagannathan has been the Secretary General of CityNet since 2013. CityNet is the largest association of urban stakeholders committed to sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. Established in 1987 with support from UNESCAP, UNDP and UN Habitat, the Network of Cities has grown to include over 163 municipalities, NGOs, private companies and research centres.
Dr. Vijay is also a Senior Fellow at the World Resources Institute, Washington DC. He provides strategic and technical advice to CityNet members and the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University, Washington DC. Vijay leads the WRI team providing technical assistance to cities in the Central Asia Regional Cooperation (CAREC) countries to promote low-carbon development in selected cities of China, Kazakhstan and Mongolia under an Asian Development Bank (ADB) finance technical assistance fund.
