Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili is Group CEO of Sarawak Energy, Malaysia’s largest provider of renewable energy and the primary energy developer and power utility for Sarawak with a vision to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for Sarawak and the region. Sharbini chaired the inaugural Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF) 2019 to advance initiatives for a more sustainable energy future. In 2020, he launched Sustainability & Sarawak Energy to raise employee awareness of their individual responsibility towards sustainability and committed Sarawak Energy to the "Business Ambition for 1.5°Celsius" under United Nations Global Compact – the first corporation to do so in Malaysia.
Working with the Government of Sarawak, key initiatives include the expansion of rural electrification through solar micro-grids and Southeast Asia’s first Integrated Hydrogen Production & Refueling Station commissioned in 2019 in Kuching, Sarawak. Sharbini was awarded Platinum under ‘The Best Chief Executive Officer’ category at the 12th Annual Global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards and Good Governance Awards 2020. Sarawak Energy is a platinum member and sustainability partner of the International Hydropower Association (IHA) on which Sharbini serves as a board member since 2017.
